Why take out travel insurance when you travel abroad? Do I need Covid insurance? Follow us as we shed some light on the subject.

Risk everywhere

Abroad, even when covered by travel insurance, the risk of accident or illness remains significant, sometimes even greater than in France. Take Thailand, for example, which has the second-highest rate of road deaths in the world. What’s more, the COVID-19 crisis has changed entry requirements in many countries, making COVID-19-specific travel insurance mandatory in some cases. Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you have to let your guard down. Indeed, even without practicing extreme sports or taking considerable risks, a simple domestic accident such as a fall in the bathtub can quickly happen. So it’s crucial to maintain constant vigilance and make sure you have the right coverage to deal with these eventualities.

Your credit card travel insurance is limited

Some bank cards offer travel cover, but many don’t have the Covid travel insurance option. However, the level of coverage depends on the nature of the product. If you’re going away for more than three months, the insurance on your bank card won’t be enough, as cover is valid for 90 days. You should therefore take out travel insurance from day 1 for a long stay. The maximum cover is €11,000 for a basic bank card, which may not be enough depending on the destination, given that a broken leg in the USA costs around €40,000. The ceiling for Premium cards is €155,000. When you consider that a day in intensive care in the United States costs around €43,000, you can quickly add it all up!

Social security abroad does not always apply

We are fortunate to have good social security coverage in France. However, it is important to note that social security outside the European Union does not work. As for European Union member countries, the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) will cover part of your medical expenses. In these 2 cases, you’ll need to take out travel insurance to be 100% covered.

Request your EHIC card via the Ameli website: https://www.ameli.fr/assure/adresses-et-contacts/votre-carte-vitale-carte-europeenne-d-assurance-maladie-ceam/commander-une-carte-europeenne-d-assurance-maladie-ceam

Repatriation assistance is important

Travel is supposed to be synonymous with joy, relaxation and discovery. Unfortunately, a serious accident can happen very quickly. If the local health staff so decide, you can be repatriated or transferred to another country. Travel insurance is essential to cover the cost of repatriation or travel to another country.

The ultimate aim of insuring your holiday is to ensure that you’re safe and protected in all circumstances, wherever you are in the world! With travel insurance, you have the right guarantees, so you’re sure to leave with optimum coverage. So when are you leaving?

Additional baggage insurance

Taking out luggage insurance is an essential precaution for any traveller. When you’re on the move, your luggage is exposed to a variety of risks, such as theft, loss or damage during transfers, particularly at airports or during connecting flights. Baggage insurance gives you peace of mind by covering the value of your personal belongings in the event of an incident. This coverage is all the more crucial when transporting valuables, electronic equipment or essential medicines. In the event of loss or damage, you can obtain compensation to replace the necessary items or compensate for the inconvenience caused. Without this insurance, replacement costs could be substantial, adding unnecessary stress to your travel experience. Luggage insurance is financial protection that ensures the safety of your belongings, so you can travel with greater peace of mind.
