Greece

Naturally, Europeans are going to favor tourism in their own countries, but they’re also going to divide part of their budget for a little more exoticism. And what could be more exotic than Greece, so close and yet so exhilarating?

Greece is one of the most popular countries in our community, because it handled the COVID-19 crisis so well. An exotic destination, exotic in its landscapes and colors.

It’s the land of 6,000 islands to discover, with turquoise/deep blue waters and 300 days of sunshine a year. The change of scenery is total, the people welcoming and the islands exceptional, such as Milos, Corfu, the Ionian Islands, Santorini or the nugget Amorgos.

Of course, Greece is also the founding history of our European civilizations, with its ancient remains in Athens, such as the Acropolis and the Parthenon. But also on other islands and in the Peloponnese.

And to tantalize the taste buds of even the most demanding gourmets: mezzés, small pita dishes such as hummus, Greek tabbouleh, feta, moussaka and baklava for the more traditional. Ouzo for alcohol (in moderation).

In short, a land of endless change and peace, with its countless islands. But also endearing personalities like the “Greek yayas” make it a must-see in Europe.

The island of Cyprus

In Cyprus, the island’s Greek and Turkish origins can be seen in the narrow streets. If you’re a history buff, you’ll be delighted by the island’s archaeological sites! Cyprus is a magnificent island, where mountainous, marine and rural landscapes coexist. You’ll fall in love with its magnificent beaches and charming towns with their typical architecture. It’s a magnificent destination, whose atmosphere and architecture will take you back to ancient times!

North Cyprus

The northern part of the island, where the Turkish Cypriots live, boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. You’ll also find a rich historical heritage, including the Cathedral of Saint Sophia, the ruins of the Church of Saint Nicholas of the English and the Church of Saint Catherine. If you’re looking to visit a small, quiet town rich in culture, we recommend Kyrenia, home to the Bellapais Monastery, a haven of beauty and tranquillity just 5km from the city.

But if you go to Cyprus, you won’t want to miss its unmissable capital: Nicosia, the city with two faces. And the good news (or not) is that you can visit this capital from both the north and south of the island, as it has the unfortunate distinction of being the last city in Europe to be divided by the “green line”. The contrast between Nicosia North and Nicosia South is stark! To the south, a modern city with Mediterranean charm; to the north, a provincial Turkish city with many architectural surprises. In fact, a few minutes after crossing the line (with your ID, of course), you’ll land on the bazaar’s main street, which leads to the heart of the city, where the Grand Mosque is located.

South Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus, in the south, is inhabited by Greek Cypriots, and this part of the country has no shortage of interesting places to see!

Head to the south-west of the island, to Paphos, a city that combines passion, religious fervour and romance. The town is home to numerous ruins dating back to the 12th century BC. The company’s origins date back to the 4th century BC, the Roman period and the Middle Ages. Legend has it that Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty in ancient Greek mythology, was born on the south coast of Paphos. If you continue your journey towards Kouklia, you can admire the Petra Tou Romiou, or Aphrodite’s Rock.

But if you’d rather soak up the sun and enjoy the sea air, put on your swimsuit and head for Lara Beach, a beach accessible via steep footpaths that lead to fine sand and turquoise water.

Iceland

Iceland, which means “land of ice”, is a rock lost in the Atlantic Ocean. A small island with a population of 320,000, mostly concentrated in the capital Reykjavik, it has everything to please and attract many tourists: fjords, icebergs, hot springs, whale watching…

I’m not even talking about the supernatural landscapes, which reinforce the mythology and mystery surrounding Iceland.

You won’t be bored there. If you’re a fan of hiking and nature, Iceland is the place for you. You’ll go on magnificent hikes where you’ll see things you’ve only seen on the internet before: geysers of boiling water, waterfalls and cascades seen only in animated films.

We recommend whale watching, mainly in the north of the country. You’ll feel tiny in the face of these (gentle) colossi, nearly 30 metres long! It will be a breathtaking spectacle, nature in all its splendour.

As you can imagine, Iceland has a lot to offer in terms of scenery and activities. It’s a country where you’ll feel right at home. And you’ll probably want to go back as soon as possible, as if the country had put a spell on you…

And finally, don’t forget that no matter which country you choose, travel insurance is necessary to leave with peace of mind.
