Finding accommodation, food and directions… Not always easy without a smartphone! So here’s a compilation of 10 must-have travel apps.
Let’s face it, even though many of us go on trips to recharge our batteries and disconnect, few of us manage to let go of our phones altogether! These days, dozens of travel apps make life easier and save space.
All in one place: 10 travel apps on your smartphone. Very practical!
Some are well known, but others may surprise you…
Shall we?
On your marks. Ready to go? Download/surf !
This application will enable you to keep an eye on your budget and your various expenses, according to categories and starting budget. It also offers multi-currency management, which comes in handy for us globetrotters… Especially if you’re off on a trip around the world!
We’ll tell you about the budget in the next article.
Very practical if you have a few hours to spend in an airport, want to rest before your next flight or even take a nice shower. (You never know who your next flight neighbor will be, do you?) Thanks to this app, you can buy immediate access to one of the listed salons.
Whether you’re looking for a sofa to spend the night on or a luxury hotel at a discounted price to surprise your other half, there’s a whole host of “good deals” apps! Sometimes it’s worth taking a little time to find the accommodation that suits you best. I don’t know about you, but I need a travel app that advises me on how to get a good night’s sleep so I can enjoy the day ahead!

No more headaches with your calculator to convert your Euros into Pounds or Dollars! This currency converter even lets you transfer money abroad.
“Me no speak English.” It’s not always easy to make yourself understood when you’re not comfortable with languages. Google Translate to the rescue! This is the travel application that manages the most languages. Dictionaries can be downloaded to use the app offline. Very practical in some parts of the world!
DeepL Translator is also highly recommended for the quality of its translations. But this is a website, not an application.
Want to share all your photos on Facebook without blowing your phone bill? Or make a Skype call to your other half?
Of course, you have to be careful with your mobile data to avoid blowing your “smart budget”.
There are a number of applications available to locate the nearest hotspots, along with the passwords for most of them.
MAPS.ME tops the poll for best offline map application. The main reason for this is that it uses data collected from OpenStreetMap, an open-source mapping solution.
But it goes without saying that Google Maps is a safe bet, too!
Speaking of localization… This application made us smile, but seemed so essential, at least in certain parts of the world. Have you guessed? And yes! It can be used to locate the nearest public toilets!
Small bladders beware…
Perfect order of things, isn’t it? Once the overflow has been evacuated, you can set off to fill your water bottles.
We love the concept!
This app directs you to the nearest “Refill” station, avoiding over-consumption of plastic water bottles.
If you’re venturing into certain parts of the world, this application could well save your life!
The original guide was written by John “Lofty” Wiseman, a former member of the British Special Air Service (SAS). He has become a specialist in survival techniques.
The travel app, mobile app version contains numerous survival tips for all situations and environments: urban, natural, desert, aquatic…
